This Weeks Bizarre Sports Stories

Just taking a quick look at some of the headlines in any major sport going on right now an the word that may come to mind is chaos or just plain bizarre. I know from week to week when it comes to professional sports there are stories that seem to gather more media attention than others. It just seems like that past few days we have seen an abundance of bizarre sports stories to hit the news and they are not isolated to just one sport either which just adds to craziness of the past few days.

Let start with the top bizarre story to hit the NFL in quite a while when star receiver for the Giants accidentally shot himself in the leg at a night club. He is now released on $100,000 dollars bail but is facing weapons charges since he did not have a permit for the gun New York city. All that distraction and the Giants still beat up on the rival Washington Redskins.

The dreamer V.02 (Mister Disaster serie 03)Next bizarre story also happens to be out of New York only this time it’s for the NBA and the Knicks. Here you have a star point guard that is getting paid millions of dollars a year and is not playing. It all came to a boiling point when the coach of the Knicks needed Marbury to play in a game against Detroit and he refused to play. Now his teammates and his team want nothing to do with him and Marbury has been banned from even practicing with the team as the Knicks try and figure out how to dump Marbury and his large contract.

Ok here’s another just weird story to me and this one is going to effect athletes in many different sports especially Major League Baseball. A judge has ordered that the restrictions on the Balco jury testimony be lifted and all those grand jury testimonies are going to be made public. This is more bad news for Barry Bonds, Garry Sheffield, Jason Giambi and other sports stars like Marion Jones.

The last story that I wanted to mention for the world of sports was that of Lance Armstrong. He officially announced today that he is definitely committed to racing in the Tour De France for 2009. This will be four years since his retirement after his seventh and last victory at the Tour De France. Lance has stated that the only reason for his comeback is to bring global attention or his foundation and their fight against cancer. Very admirable, but really is that the only reason? Who thinks he doesn’t want another Tour victory?

Carpe Diem!
